AD 2024 Issue #16 SUN EATER NEWSLETTER THE BROKEN BINDING EDITIONS ARE COMING THIS YEAR If you missed out on the Diamond Edition of EMPIRE OF SILENCE, never fear. THE BROKEN BINDING is releasing their own signed limited edition of not just EMPIRE OF SILENCE, but HOWLING DARK and DEMON IN WHITE as well (books 4-7 will follow over the course of the next two years).  The Broken Binding editions will each feature 5 new pieces of art from artists Peng Lu and Rene Aigner: a reversible dust jacket (that's 2 different covers), board art, and 2 different endpapers. They will all be signed, and will have original intros written by me from the perspective of characters in the Sun Eater universe.    The cover board illustration for the EMPIRE OF SILENCE | BROKEN BINDING edition, by Peng Lu, featuring Hadrian and Valka in the ruins at Calagah. You'll notice that Peng Lu took design cues from James L. Cook's version of Valka and Hadrian from the Diamond Edition art. We're hoping to give a consistent impression of the universe across our various artists--while leaving room for each artist to express his or her unique style. The first endpaper illustration for the EMPIRE OF SILENCE | BROKEN BINDING edition, by Rene Aigner. This scene isn't in the book, but you can imagine something like this happening, with Hadrian, Crispin, and Lord Alistair inspecting the troops while Tor Gibson stands by.  The cover board illustration for the HOWLING DARK | BROKEN BINDING edition, by Peng Lu, featuring Hadrian's duel with Aranata Otiolo during the Battle on the Demiurge. Scene was selected by Petrik Leo, and Petrik and I handled the art direction. Work on SHADOWS UPON TIME (BOOK 7) is temporarily on pause while I finish tying off a lot of loose ends. I hope to resume by the end of June. I have written stories for the EMPIRE OF SILENCE | ANDERIDA EDITION (out next year) as well as the HOWLING DARK | DIAMOND EDITION (on sale later this year), a Pallino story and a Jinan one. I wrote introductions for the three BROKEN BINDING EDITIONS, as previously mentioned. I have two more introductions to write, one for the EMPIRE OF SILENCE | ANDERIDA EDITION, the other for the HOWLING DARK | DIAMOND EDITION. Artist James L. Cook is putting the finishing touches on the cover for the HOWLING DARK | DIAMOND EDITION, after which he will do the cover for the remastered version of TALES OF THE SUN EATER, VOL. 2.  The EMPIRE OF SILENCE | DIAMOND EDITION arrived last month, but was misprinted. A reprint is underway, and should arrive later this summer. I will mail them out immediately. Slipcases and traycases for those are finalized and with the printer.
