SUN EATER RETURNS TO DAW BOOKS
|
|
If you've been around a while, you know that this series has had a...tortured relationship with publishing. Between the splitting of book 4 into books 4 and 5 and myriad contract renewal issues culminating in not one, but two publisher changes (one in the US, one in the UK), as well as no fewer than 3 special editions to confuse the issue, things have never been simple.
But they are simple now. I am happy to announce that my original publisher, DAW Books, has picked the series back up. This past month, they closed a deal with Baen Books to purchase the rights to book 6, DISQUIET GODS, as well as the upcoming book seven, SHADOWS UPON TIME.
What does this mean for you?
More than you'd think, actually. DAW will take over management of DISQUIET GODS in December of this year, with the release of the trade paperback edition of book 6 on December 17 of this year. This publisher change guarantees that the series will be available not only in a complete matching set of paperbacks, but of hardcover as well.
That's right. DAW Books is committing to reprint the hardcover editions of the entire series, including DISQUIET GODS. EMPIRE OF SILENCE has already been reprinted, but I am happy to announce that hardcover reprints of both HOWLING DARK and DEMON IN WHITE are underway and will be on-sale next month, in August. The later books will follow later on.
What's more, DAW Books has committed to a slight redesign of the spines in order to provide you collectors with a pixel-perfect matching set for your shelves. You can see the jacket design for HOWLING DARK below.

Here you can get a look at the altered spine on the upcoming hardcover reprint of HOWLING DARK, out in August, which is designed to better match the design on EMPIRE OF SILENCE, with better text placement and a larger icon of Kharn Sagara, for you collectors.

This announcement comes after a six-year battle to get this series made (longer if you count the time I spent before I had a contract). But the future of the Sun Eater series is ultimately secure. DAW Books has committed to see the journey through to the end. Gododdin awaits. And light. And fire.
And you all can have your matching sets. And this may mean that a box set is in our future.
But there's one more thing:
In addition to buying the end of the series back from Baen, DAW Books has also signed an option on my next book. I know a lot of you are real excited to see what's coming after Hadrian, and well...here's your first hint.
There's something coming. What that something is, well, you'll have to wait and see.

What's going on in the writing world? I took June off work on SHADOWS UPON TIME, in order to really clear my decks and get other projects out of the way. Here's what I did:
- Finished all the art briefs for the Broken Binding and Anderida Books special editions for this year.
- Wrote introductions for the EMPIRE OF SILENCE | ANDERIDA EDITION, the HOWLING DARK | DIAMOND EDITION, and the first three books for Broken Binding.
- Wrote a Pallino-POV novelette, "The Devil You Know," for Anderida Books.
- Wrote a Jinan-POV novelette, "Falling Angels," for Diamond Editions.
- Wrote a short story, "The Acosmist," for TALES OF THE SUN EATER, VOL. 4.
- Completed the manuscript for TALES OF THE SUN EATER, VOL. 4.
- Revised TALES OF THE SUN EATER, VOL. 2 for its remaster, coming later this month/early next.
- Prepped art briefs for HOWLING DARK | DIAMOND EDITION.
- Completed a short story for a Baen anthology, out in October.
Now all that is done, and my full attention can return to SHADOWS UPON TIME.
